Surrender

She sat in the darkness
Locked in her own mind
A spinning maze of endless directions
But still feeling the bind

Stuck in the spider’s web
Unable to move
Paralyzed by so many options
She just has so much to prove

Crushed under the weight
Of her own grand expectations
She screamed into the void
All her endless frustrations

She screamed and screamed
Until she ran out of voice
Enveloped by stillness
Now stripped of all choice

And there in the darkness
In the still quiet void
Sat before her a figure
Seemingly overjoyed

The Goddess sat smiling
Obscured by the dark
Watching the young woman
As she poured out her heart

The pain and the bitter
The fear and the hate
The moments held back
Locked behind a smiling gate

Now sitting there empty
Drained of all fight
Long out of tears
The young woman surrendered to the night

Then the Goddess reached out
Like light piercing the vail
Like a star in the night
Marking the trail

And the Goddess sang to the woman
A song beyond words
About experiences and moments
That must be felt, seen, and heard

About a truth beyond thought
About what our minds can forget
That the wisdom we gain
Is though but a silhouette

And in the stillness, she remembered.
Now filled with the song
That she was not she
But the Goddess all along.
